FAQ's

1) Does Hella sell Xenon (HID) retrofit kits for my vehicle?
A: No. The "retrofit" kits that are widely sold on the Internet are illegal and potentially harmful to other drivers. The only legal Xenon conversions are those that use factory parts designed for a specific model of vehicle and sold by the manufacturer as an optional upgrade. The Xenon headlamps are designed as a complete system that includes the bulb, reflector, lens, housing, ballast, and other specific parts. Merely using the bulb and ballast inserted into a Halogen headlight housing will not give the proper light pattern due to the fact that the reflectors are so different and are not compatible. The result is usually a large amount of glare and scattered light that can blind oncoming drivers.

2) Do you have any products available in 24V?
A: Yes. All lights, accessories, and bulbs listed on this website are 12V unless otherwise noted, but we have many featured products available in 24V. You can check availability in our online catalog by clicking here: Online Catalog or by contacting a Hella retailer listed here.

3) Are the measurements on the diagrams in metric or English measurements?
A: All measurements are in millimeters unless otherwise noted.

4) I see that some products say “ECE” or “DOT”. What do these mean?
A: Those are abbreviations for different regulatory agencies that govern the automotive lighting market.

Only lights that have a DOT approval are legal for use on US highways. ECE approval is only for European highways and not legal for use on American roads.

5) What is the different between products that are DOT approved or products that are labeled for "Off-road use only"?
A: Products that are DOT approved are legal for use on roads and highways in the United States. Products without this approval or products that are labeled “Off-Road Use Only” are not legal for use on U.S. roads and highways.

6) Can I buy direct from Hella, Inc.?
A:  Not at this time, but we do have a list of Hella retailers that you can access by clicking here.

7) Why are some bulbs available in 100W but are not listed on the spare parts list?
A: Hella has several high-wattage bulbs for sale that are not SAE/DOT certified and should be used at the consumer's discretion. These are intended for Off-Road or Racing use only.

8) Can I mount my lamps upside down?
A: Most of our pendant style aftermarket lamp kits are designed to be mounted either above or below the bracket. They will need to have the lens/reflector assembly rotated 180° to keep the proper alignment of the beam pattern. This can easily be done by loosening the front mounting ring and rotating the lens/reflector assembly before re-tightening.

9) Are Hella products covered under warranty? And if so, how do I process it?
A: Yes, all Hella products are covered by a one year warranty against manufacturing defects. This warranty is exclusively handled by the Hella retailer that you originally purchased the product from. You must contact the retailer for any warranty claims. Do not send any material directly to Hella for warranty claims. Please click the "Warranty" link below for complete details.
